The benefits of ErgoPack for strapping pallets

How ErgoPack increases efficiencies and improves safety when strapping pallets

Businesses applying strap to pallet loads are balancing three competing priorities – worker safety, process efficiency, and pallet stability.

ErgoPack is an innovate yet simple solution for strapping pallets. The portable machine semi-automatically dispenses, tensions and welds strapping around a pallet load. And its benefits are many – by feeding the strap around a pack or pallet and tensioning it in place it improves worker safety, increases process efficiency, and ensures pallet stability.

How does the ErgoPack strapping machine work?

Ergopack works simply and efficiently. Place the machine in front of a palletised load for the ChainLance to feed strap through the pallet and back up, over the load, into the operator’s hand. The Strap Lifter then raises the strap end for the Sealing Head to tension the strapping and weld the two together.

Benefits of ErgoPack

Improved worker safety

Operatives comfort and health and safety is improved by ErgoPack as it removes the need to continuously bend down and move around a pallet to apply strapping.

ErgoPack helps businesses to overcome a major challenge and risk around employee ill health and absence. In the UK, the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) found that for workers suffering with work-related ill health in 2022/23, this averaged 13.9 days off for those with musculoskeletal disorders, totaling 6.6 million days lost*.

ErgoPack’s own findings suggest that, on average, businesses can see up to five days sick per employee per year due to back pain alone.

Where 50 strapping cycles per day are required by a business, ErgoPack will remove the need for around 25,000 bend downs and 12,500 walk arounds of pallets each year**.

Its ergonomic design has been developed to improve efficiency and comfort in working environments. The machine also removes the likelihood of strap being left trailing around a pallet, which can create additional trip hazards for operatives.

Each element of the device is ergonomically designed, including comfortable handles that limit the effort required from operatives – all supporting safer, heathier, happier and more motivated team members.

Increased efficiency and throughput

Process efficiency is increased as ErgoPack reduces the time required to apply strapping.

With ErgoPack, the time needed to strap each pallet is cut by, on average, 67%. Where manual strapping typically requires two minutes per pallet, the machine takes just 40 seconds to apply strap. As above, where 50 strapping cycles per day are required, ErgoPack creates a time saving of around 70 minutes per day, adding up to 24.5 hours over a month**.

It will also improve wider operational efficiencies by reducing the likelihood of worker injuries which can lead to absences.

Confirmed pallet stability

Load stability and security is assured as ErgoPack correctly tensions and welds strap in place.

ErgoPack ensures pallet stability for loads. The machine offers an easy, user-friendly touchscreen for operatives to programme in the required tension for strapping, according to the size, weight and type of goods being loaded and storage or transportation requirements to follow.

The device is also electronically adjustable to operate at different heights and pallet widths, suiting different load sizes.

ErgoPack machines offer a range of other benefits too, thanks to a range of features. An intuitive touchscreen panel offers a user-friendly interface, while a line-laser ensures the machine is best positioned in front of each pallet, and a fully integrated sealing head ensures straps are welded exactly.

Frequently asked questions about ErgoPack for strapping pallets

What kind of businesses benefit from ErgoPack strapping machines?

ErgoPack is trusted by businesses across the warehousing, logistics and wholesale sectors as well as businesses palletising everything from bricks and roof tiles to furniture and corrugated goods.

What kind of strapping can the ErgoPack apply?

ErgoPack has been designed for use with plastic strapping (PP or PET) – one of the most common types of strapping, suitable for a range of applications. Different models can accommodate different widths of strapping, ranging from 9mm up to 19mm.

Does the ErgoPack require an operative?

Yes, ErgoPack is a semi-automatic packaging machine, requiring operative input and programming. Operatives must key in the height and width of loads along with the desired tension for strapping.

How is the ErgoPack used and moved?

ErgoPack is a mobile machine, able to be manoeuvred around a facility by an operative. Additionally, the ErgoPack Air is able to apply strap to elevated pallets.

How many types of ErgoPack are available?

ErgoPack has developed a number of devices since 1998, now retailing three core models – each offering ergonomic design, efficiency and ease of use. MorsaPack’s team can advise you on the most suitable model for your packaging needs.
